The 3 Pillars that Support our Health & Wellness
Three pillars support our health and well being: sleep, nutrition, and fitness. Strengthening one pillar supports the other two. However, striking a balance between them means we must control the amount of sleep, nutritious food, and exercise we get. Certain factors in the home environment may prevent us from achieving this balance. This is why it is important to maintain a healthy indoor environment. Since most of us spead nearly 90% of our time indoors, the air and overall environment can plan huge factor in our ability to maintain a healthy balance in the 3 pillars of health.
Health Pillar #1: Sleep
Getting the right amount of sleep each night has serious health consequences. When we don’t get enough quality sleep our overall health suffers. As a result, we feel tired and irritable and we have a hard time concentrating. This lack of focus can also lead to accidents. Long periods of sleep deprivation makes it hard for our bodies to fight disease. Moreover, long periods of sleep deprivation impacts every area of our lives including our professional and personal relationships.
Environmental factors can affect the quality of sleep we get each night as well. An uncomfortable bed or too much light or noise makes it difficult to fall asleep. Indoor air quality also affects sleep which offsets all 3 pillars of health. Better ventilation lowers CO2 levels which can improve sleep quality and next-day performance. A device like the PURE-Plasma Bipolar Ionizer or a wall-mounted air purifier helps control mold and bacteria growth. It also reduces dust, pollen, and pet dander that trigger allergy and asthma symptoms.
Health Pillar #2: Nutrition
Nutrition is vital to our health. When we eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, poultry, and eggs this keeps our bodies in top form. It also reduces the risk for diseases, lowers our blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and gives us more energy. When we have more energy, we can exercise more which leads to better sleep. All 3 pillars of health are strengthened as a result.
Health Pillar #3: Fitness
Number 3 in the pillars of health is fitness. The Department of Health and Human Services recommends that adults get a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity each week. A combination of the two works as well. If you can manage to do more, you’ll see even greater health benefits.
Moderate exercise includes walking and swimming. Vigorous exercise includes activities such as jogging, weight training, and rock climbing. Therefore, if you can schedule 30 minutes a day for some form of moderate exercise, it helps you lose weight, reduce stress, sleep better, and feel energized.
